I've been continuing to edit Broken Promise and am contemplating the prequel Broken Youth. Where to start, what to leave out, who to include?
I'm looking for guidance from authors, who are both indie-published and whose sales are placing them on Amazon, New York Times, or another well known best seller list, to lead me down the path of grabbing reader's attention. The best piece of advice so far is to give snippets or vignettes that give background on the characters that the reader will encounter in following books.
Another idea I'm playing with came from dissecting the writing of a much favored author who has done extremely well with her series. When she wants to give multiple points of view she will use first person with the main character, then journal entries, news clippings, or third person. This style would let me tell multiple perspectives and introduce many of the characters in future stories.
Guess it is time to have a chat with my characters. Which one will they choose? I haven't a clue, maybe they have something else in mind; only time will tell.
Life is good :)
